Birds and THAT AINT your BEESWAX

Image
I swear that one point in time I heard “That Ain’t your Beeswax” on Disney channel as a kid and thought it was the most hilarious thing ever to be said. As a result, I quoted that all the time when I was seven years old.  My name is Angela McChicken, here to talk to you about something that you may have been told before that it wasn’t your business—though I am almost certain no one has never said “ain’t your beeswax” to your face before. Kids are strange but interesting, and that is why I have dedicated my life to figuring out their cute little brains. I specialized in adolescence. With teen hood comes puberty. Puberty is such an interesting time for many as so many things are changing in our body both physically and mentally.  Being a 90’s kid, and only 90’s kids will remember, I owed the infamous American Girl Doll book on puberty and anything in between. It was many parents fail safe approach to talking about the birds and the bees and puberty without really having to...

The Very Angry Caterpillar

Recently, I have been under a lot of stress, I must confess,  It wasn’t my intention To invite lots of contention And I’m afraid I have created a not-so-beautiful  MESS. Cut me some slack, I am not children’s book author, though I am a child development expert specializing in adolescence. If you’re new here, my name is Angela McChicken. He goes to sleep and a cocoon forms and he turns into a beautiful butterfly. (Which side note, cocoons make moths and chrysalis make butterflies, but try being five and pronouncing that)  I recently felt like that caterpillar. I let my stress overcome me. Each small event piled on top of one another, and I le...

Terrible Teens? Too Bad.

Image
I recently received a message from an old youth leader of mine. I have always looked up to them as a mentor, and even a friend as I grew into an adult. They knew I had recently graduated from Yale University with a degree in child development with an emphasis on adolescence. My dissertation was all about the effects of corporal punishment and emotional intelligence in teens. This is what they had to say:  “Dear Angela McChicken, (Or I guess I should say Master McChicken) I am thrilled to hear about your incredible success on defending your dissertation! Your mother tells me the Yale child department was so impressed with your research, that they wanted to offer you a full-time job on the spot! I was pleased to hear that you preferred to humbly serve as a consultant for troubled teens in the huge city of Rexburg, Idaho. You’ve always had a keen heart from a young age.  I’m reaching out because you are an expert! My daughter is turning into quite the…brat? I feel terrible ...
